Have you had enough of Facebook? Get Hacked and never got things right again? Not to mention privacy issues, time drains, relationship-straining political debates, and all the rest? In the last year, I have had several issues on Facebook. Still, social media is a valuable tool. Facebook is the biggest tool in the website box. Well, just like Amazon that is the big problem!
It’s not news that Facebook is using our data for all sorts of marketing and promotional purposes, although Facebook claims it to be standard practice among internet companies.
What are your other options?
There is always Twitter, but if That appealed to you, you’d already be there. There are a few other options, though: social media sites that haven’t gotten much traction yet but that offer better privacy and more control and just might help you to partially fill that Facebook controlled network.
Just lately Facebook has been deleting accounts, most of which needed to go! However, caught up in the clean up are 1000s of good accounts. The #DeleteFacebook crowd or the 'Time Well Spent' movement to leave Facebook has never been higher, it appears that it will continue to grow too.
While setting up some of these sites, we discovered that no one platform can entirely replace the utilities offered by Facebook. But aggregations of some social platforms and messaging apps can easily act as a Facebook alternative.
Below are some sites you can use.
A lot of people who've fled Facebook have made Instagram their new home—and they haven't let the fact that Facebook has owned the service since 2012 stop them. Instagram is best known as a place to post photos of meals, sunsets, travel, and pets. Many also post selfies that are so carefully edited that they're unrecognizable. Others post videos or Snapchat-like stories that showcase 24 hours worth of photos and videos that disappear at the end of the day. Like Twitter, it's fun to follow celebrities on Instagram—and through their photos see how the other half lives. On Instagram, you can post publicly, share Stories with specific friends, or post privately. You will be amazed to know that Instagram allows users to upload about thousands of images on its platform within a few seconds. It can instantly connect you to many other networking sites too like Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr, etc for easy sharing of stories. The best part is that this platform is not just limited to Photo sharing rather it can also be used for sharing eye-catching videos but the maximum supported time duration for videos is 15 seconds only. Instagram also allows people to follow others like most of the social media applications. Users can customize their account settings with ease so that the privacy of all uploaded photos or videos can be maintained.

Twitter took Facebook's most fundamental feature—the status update—and spun it off into its own app. It's since become a platform for celebrities and politicians to post their every thought, photo, and video. Many of these become news stories in and of themselves. Speaking of news, Twitter has become an excellent news feed as most media organizations post breaking news stories there. Just make sure you're following publications you trust and avoid the comments and replies in most cases. On Twitter, you can also broadcast your 280-character thoughts publicly or make your account private so only the followers you accept can see your activity. Within the last few years, Twitter developers have updated so many interesting features to this network and today people love the all-new version with feature-rich design. But at the same time, many people hate this site just because its presence is somewhat same as that of Facebook. One recent update to Twitter was related to its poll creation abilities and it received great response from users. Besides the simple twitter card integration service, Twitter also allows users to share many short duration multimedia files using tweets. This platform is also popular for contests that are launched for the common people and they can participate with creative images, videos, etc. The one who gets a higher ranking is able to receive rewards from the contest organizer.

Maybe you don't care what everyone in your "friends" group is thinking or doing every minute of the day. You've got enough of that on Facebook over the years. Instead, you're looking for design inspiration for your wedding, recipes for dinner this week, and travel ideas for your next trip. Whatever your interest, you'll find it on Pinterest. One of Pinterest's more interesting features is Pinterest Lens, which lets you snap a photo of anything that appeals to you in the real world and then shows you how to purchase, create, or do it yourself. You can share your posts or pins publicly or hide your pins, or even hide your account from search engines.

Ello, created as a more private, ad-free alternative to Facebook, exploded in popularity in 2014 at the height of the Facebook real-name policy controversy. It's since morphed into a more Pinterest-like social networking platform for creative people: artists, musicians, photographers, and more to build brand awareness and sell their wares. What hasn't changed, however, is that unlike other more popular networking sites, Ello never sells user data, shows ads, or enforces a real-name policy. Critics of the site claim that Ello can’t really be considered a true Facebook alternative because it’s lacking many of the basic functions required to compete. For example, private communication between users via a chat box function is currently not possible.
Ello is free to use, although they’re considering the idea of offering some paid services in the future. And with the goal of being the alternative social media network of choice, Ello is marketed on three principles.
- They don’t sell user data to advertisers or third parties. In fact, data collection is restricted to what you provide on the Settings page and in posts: name, email address, location, creator type, etc. The rest of your data is anonymized.
- They are emphatically ad-free.
- They don’t force you to use your real name.
If you’re the creative type, Ello could be the social network for you. It even offers an opportunity to earn commission on the sale of your art.
Ello’s focus instead is on high-quality content for all to see, making it an excellent environment for artists and photographers. Users from creative backgrounds are often attracted by Ello’s simple, minimalistic design, leaving lots of space for user posts to shine.

Snapchat may have started as the anti-Facebook for a younger, more privacy-focused generation to send self-erasing photo messages. But it quickly became a more feature-rich social platform, full of goofy face filters, geographical photo tags, and short-snippet news stories from major media organizations. Here is one more social networking application for you all that assists in mobile-based instant messaging. Snapchat is growing at a faster pace these days and stands out like a big competitor against Facebook and Instagram etc. Using this mobile application, you can easily share media content with your friends over the network. And it gets disappeared within a few seconds when your friend has gone through it. Many people love to use this application due to the additional advantage of chat disappearing feature as it keeps their conversations secret. If you are not familiar with Snapchat then it is the right time to get it downloaded on your portable device and start enjoying it. You can also find many tutorials online that provide step by step guidelines about how to get started with Snapchat.
Vero gives people greater control over who sees which of their posts. Organize your network by acquaintances, friends, or close friends and then select which users see your latest photo, song link, movie recommendation, or news article in their news feed. Users can also message connections in the app.
At the beginning of March 2018, for example, CEO Ayman Harari, worth billions of euros, announced an increase of more than three million users after Vero had previously been a relative niche app with around 200,000 active members. Not only effective influencer campaigns played an important role, but also the current offer of free lifetime membership won users over. The app, which is available for iOS, and Android, might only be available with a paid annual subscription in the future. However, the offer has been initially extended until further notice.
The annual fee, however, is intended to help out the developing company, Vero Labs, by being its main source of income. The idea is for the platform to remain free of advertising in the long run and not to share any user information to make a profit. In addition, the company wants to generate revenue through transaction fees that merchants have to pay when selling products through Vero and implementing the 'buy now' button.

Facebook has been and remains the undisputed king of the social network market. Granted, in some regions of the world, like Russia or China, for example, there is a more level playing field with the success of popular alternatives to Facebook who take an equal market share. But for the most part, Facebook is the worldwide leader when it comes to social interaction online. If you’re using the platform, you’ve got no choice but to accept the network’s settings on privacy and data protection and live with them. If you don’t want to do this, then you’ll have to find a good and conservative alternative to Facebook and either convince all of your friends, family, colleagues, and acquaintances to join you or be prepared for the fact that your online membership circle will be significantly reduced
